A Survey on the Management of Medical Clothes in Hospitals

Abstract
The purpose of this survey is to investigate the management condition of medical clothes in hospitals. For this study 30 hospitals were surveyed pertaining to the amount of medical clothes produced and the treatment Systems. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The amount of medical clothes in 1995 was 74,361 tons, and it increased to 79,503 tons in 1997 and to 87,225 tons in 1999 respectively. 2. In 1999, the total amount of medical clothes produced by all medical Institutes in Korea was 87,225 tons. Bed-clothes constituted 41.6% of the total amount, followed by linens(28.8%), clothes(23.8%) and others(5.8%). 3. The treatment methods in 1999 were divided into two such as the self-treatment(35.3%) and the treatment on commission(64.7%). The 90.2% of large hospitals with more than 1,000 beds introduced the self-treatment system. 4. The government authorities inspected 7,195 medical institutes, and took administrative actions against 64 institutes, and prosecuted 1 institute in 1999. Among 43 laundry shops inspected, 12 facilities were given administrative measures.
